My Flexible Classroom!

I have always been passionate about creating pinterest-like classrooms! From the coordinated colors to the curtains hung by command strips, down to the organization table bins. Every year has been a fun journey into different ways to decorate my room. I have admittedly spent a considerable (ok, ok, a large) amount of money doing this, but I am okay with that because it makes me and my students happier and more comfortable. I spend hours in this room a day, so it might as well be inviting! At least that’s what I tell myself to justify my spending haha!

Over the years, I have become more and more interested in flexible seating; the concept of allowing students to work in areas outside of the traditional desk and chair. I have noticed my students were able to work for a longer period of time, be focused, and remain engaged during different activities. I believe allowing students to move around and talk, as long as it pertains to the lesson is very beneficial.

During the 2017-2018 school year, I added a new rug from Wayfair and camping chairs from Walmart to my classroom library. I had white stools from IKEA that I realized were more suitable for younger and smaller bodies as my fifth graders broke a few L. (UPDATE: zip-tying the stool top to the legs apparently works wonders for bigger kids!)

For the 2019-2019 year, I will receiving a classroom renovation that I very excited for that is being sponsored by a local company! Stay tuned for the BIG classroom reveal!!
